The first pieces cut cleanly. Later in the same job, small sections stay attached. The operator slows the machine down, then raises the power setting.
It is tempting to order a new tube at that point. But “the machine cuts less effectively” and “the tube has lost output” are different findings. Cooling, optics and the electrical system all need consideration.
From a CO2 laser tube manufacturer’s perspective, the most useful starting point is a clear account of what changed.
If the machine remains within its approved operating conditions, compare results using the same material, thickness, file, speed and focus setup. Note when the deterioration starts and whether it affects the whole working area.
A useful service record might say:
“Cutting is acceptable at the start of the job. After continued operation, the same test shape no longer separates. The controller settings have not changed.”
Add the available coolant-temperature and built-in current readings. This gives a technician something to compare. “Low power” alone leaves too many possibilities open.
Stop the machine if there is a cooling alarm, leakage or electrical arcing. Do not continue a test to complete the record.
An idle temperature reading says little about what happens under sustained load.
Check whether coolant temperature remains within the range specified for the tube while the machine is working. A pump moving water does not, by itself, establish that the system can remove enough heat for a long production run. Cooling capacity, workshop conditions and operating pattern matter together.
Lowering the temperature as far as possible is not the answer either. Excessively cold surfaces can develop condensation in humid air. Use the approved range for the equipment.
For Puri installations, the published replacement guidance also calls attention to hose condition, coolant circulation and trapped air. Follow the instructions for the actual model when inspecting these items. Puri installation guidance
The beam still has to travel through the machine’s optical path.
Contaminated mirrors or a dirty focusing lens can reduce the energy reaching the workpiece. Alignment also deserves attention, especially when the cutting result varies with the position of the laser head. These are established checks in machine-manufacturer troubleshooting guidance.
Keep the comparison practical. If only one area of the bed produces poor cuts, record that detail before replacing anything. It does not prove an alignment fault, but it changes the investigation.
Cleaning and alignment should follow the machine manual. Improvised cleaning methods can turn a maintenance issue into damaged optics.
The power percentage on the controller, discharge current in milliamps and optical output in watts are separate quantities.
Puri’s specification table lists output power, peak power and operating current separately for its tube models. A peak-power figure should not be treated as the routine operating target. Nor should a current value suitable for one model be copied to another. Puri tube specifications
Where a machine has a built-in current display, record its reading under comparable conditions. A changing reading is useful evidence, but it does not identify the faulty component on its own. A steady reading does not prove that optical output is healthy either.
Have a qualified technician handle electrical diagnosis and optical-output measurements. Do not open the high-voltage circuit to make a quick comparison.
If performance remains poor after the relevant machine checks, a replacement assessment becomes more useful. Send the supplier:
The tube model, serial number and label photograph.
Machine and power-supply models.
Chiller model and recorded operating temperatures.
Material, thickness, speed and power settings.
When the problem starts, plus comparable sample photographs.
Puri Laser has specialised in CO2 laser tube development and manufacturing since 2009, with its factory in Nantong, China. Our product range includes tubes for engraving and cutting applications, with model-specific dimensions and electrical requirements. About Puri Laser
For a replacement enquiry, send your existing tube details and operating record to info@purilaser.com. Start with the symptom and the model. That makes the conversation more useful than simply asking for a higher-wattage tube.
